Walking trails and greenways in the Morrow area provide plenty of opportunities for residents and visitors to enjoy exercise and recreational activities in the midst of a busy urban area. These quiet walks through wooded areas and along creeks let users enjoy their natural surroundings. Here are some local favorites.

Reynolds Nature Preserve has four miles of walking trails winding through 146 acres. The three interconnecting trails take walkers through the woods and along streams and ponds. The Pond Loop is a one mile trail. The Perimeter Loop is a 1.5 mile trail around the property. The one mile Summit Loop trail leads to Back Mountain, the highest point in Clayton County at 1,116 feet. There is a short Native Plants Trail that is wheelchair accessible. Visitors to the preserve may also enjoy the butterfly garden. Reynolds Nature Preserve is located at 5665 Reynolds Road in Morrow. It is open Monday-Friday from 8am until dusk.

Panola Mountain State Park is located on Highway 155 in nearby Stockbridge, Georgia. Panola Mountain is a large granite outcrop with rare plants and unusual ecological features. Park users will find a two mile nature trail and a one mile fitness trail. The 12 mile PATH Foundation Trail also runs through the park and connects to Arabia Mountain and Stonecrest Mall to the east. This multi-use trail allows hikers, bikers, and skaters. The state park is open from 7am until dark. There is a $5 parking fee.

The new Reeves Creek Trail and Greenway is also located in Stockbridge. The three mile trail was opened in August 2011. It runs from Flippen Road east to Memorial Park. Plenty of parking is available at Memorial Park, which is located at 106 Jennings Way. Bikers are also welcome to use the trail.

Jester’s Creek Park and Walking Trail is located at 844 Jester Lake Drive in nearby Jonesboro, Georgia. Paved walkways and scenic boardwalks lead along the creek and over the flood plain. Clayton County International Park is also located in Jonesboro. This 200 acre park has a beach area, fishing lakes, tennis courts, picnic areas, and hiking and biking trails. Some trails are paved and some are natural. The park entrance is off Highway 138. International Park is open daily from 8am-9pm.

A walk along these trails and greenways is the perfect little escape from the bustle and traffic noise. These walks also provide opportunities to view a variety of birds and other wildlife. Trail users can get some exercise and enjoy the outdoors.
